Bldg 136 is our Company Command Post here in Mosul on Saddam's old Palace
compound. The building used to be the house of Saddam's head chef. The
compound itself has about 12 houses/palaces on it and covers about 3
square kilometers. When Baghdad fell all of the workers fled and all of
the palaces were looted so you don't find any golden toilets or crystal
chandeliers but the buildings themselves are impressive and to think that
Saddam himself only stayed 2 nights in Mosul. The palace was complete in
1996 and every night dinner was laid out and everything was prepared just
in case he happened to show up.
Ian may be working hard as a Company Commander but as the Executive Officer of a Line Infantry Company I like to kick back and have a cigar, it's hard work ridding the world of terrorists and overthrowing tyrannical dictators.
Happy Independence Day from the Stryker Brigade |
